Dirt on Down Under
AUDREY SNOWDEN, International Figure Skating
June 2005

An absolute treasure trove of information on skating in Australia, aussieSKATES has recently unveiled a completely new look to celebrate 100 years of figure skating in Australia. Don't expect a stodgy rundown of decades of history chronicling this centennial, though. aussieSKATES, designed by Nick Pilgrim, is current, clean, and slick.

The news section is kept up-to-date, and a well-organized articles section will keep visitors busy. The results section does not go back before 2004, emphasizing the current nature of the site, and the links section is extremely selective.

The site particularly sparkles in the skater section, where each Australian skater of note has his or her own section (or will have, in the near future.) An Olympic Dreams subsection on this page lists champions such as Miriam Manzano and Bradley Santer, and clicking on these skaters' links opens up a complete new skater-specific site in a new window, complete with biographical profile, articles, images, results and links (a selective, standard list). The skater-specific sites follow a clean template, making these, like the rest of the overall aussieSKATES site, a pleasure for any visitor.
