MacGregor State High School student Tina Wang's considerable success in ice skating has resulted in her being nominated for the Queensland Young Achiever Sports Award.

She has competed in seven Queensland Figure Skating State Championships, winning the 2006 junior and senior women's titles and 2007 senior women's titles; five Australian National Figure Skating Championships, winning the 2006 junior prize and second place in the senior women's.

Tina has represented Australia in four international competitions with her best international result winning a bronze medal at the 2007 Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney. Tina was the first woman in Australia to receive this accolade. She also won the Frank Family Trophy for artistic excellence at the Queensland Figure Skating State Championships three years running.

Her commitment and determination to her sport means practising 13 hours a week as well as working through her senior studies at school and attending Chinese School on Sundays. The annual awards acknowledge outstanding achievements of Queensland youth and recognise contributions in the arts, sports, community service, environment, career achievement, science and technology and regional initiative categories.
