February 2005
Hello and welcome

To mark one hundred years of competitive figure skating in Australia, aussieSKATES is celebrating with a brand new look.

Though the 2005 season is already well underway, this year is particularly exciting for our national team. Especially as the upcoming World Championships in Moscow, will act as the key qualifying event for next year's Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy.

First up however, is the Four Continents Championship in Korea. As always, Australia is sending a strong contingent, eager to take on the newly implemented Code of Points marking system. The highest placed lady, man and dance team will continue on to Russia.

Joanne Carter and Miriam Manzano have had outstanding seasons so far and will be looking to improve on their respective 10th and 11th placings from this event last year. They will be joined by veteran, Sarah Yvonne Prytula, 19th in 2004.

Bradley Santer, now a two-time national champion, has had a good run on the European circuit as well. He will be competing with fellow team mates Stuart Beckingham and Sean Carlow in Gangneung.

Dance will be represented by two couples: Natalie Buck / Trent Nelson-Bond & Danika Bourne / Alexander Pavlov.

In March, Junior Worlds in Kitchener, Ontario will feature single skaters Phoebe Di Tommaso, Robert McNamara, and dancers Danielle O'Brien & Gregory Merriman.

OzSkater, Australia's premiere skating magazine, will cover all of the events mentioned in detail for their next issue.

Best wishes to all our skaters from here at aussieSKATES.
