Australian
figure skater Joanne Carter has won the bronze medal in
the Karl Schaeffer Memorial event in Vienna.
Carter
led the competition after the short program, but finished
third in the free program to slip back to third overall.
The
event was won by Russian Viktoria Volchkova, with Hungarian
Diana Poth in second place.
Volckova
is currently ranked 10th in the world, and has a top five
finish in the 2003 world championships to her credit.
It
was a great result for Carter. The 23-year-old Sydney skater
has struggled to recapture the form that took her to a top
ten finish in the Nagano Olympic Games after a major knee
injury in 1998 that put her out of competition for two years.
