Manzano skates to seventh place in Grand Prix event

Miriam Manzano is in seventh place after the short program of Skate America, the opening event of the 2004 International Skating Union Grand Prix of figure skating series.

In an impressive result, the ACT skater sits in between Elena Liashenko of the Ukraine and Susanna Poykio of Finland, 11th and 12th respectively in the World Championships earlier this year.

Leading the event is Miki Ando of Japan, the 2004 World Junior Champion and fourth place getter at the 2004 World Titles.

Angela Nikodinov of the United States is in second place, with 17-year-old Alissa Czisny, also from the US, in third.
